Make no mistake about the lead character of the musical The Music Man, Professor Harold Hill. A conman and a traveling salesman, he intends to make his fortune by setting up a band in River City, Iowa and running away once he has received the money for the band’s uniforms and instruments. Upon arriving, though, he falls head over heels for the town’s librarian and only trained musician, Marian Paroo. The question is: what would Harold Hill do to earn Marian’s affection?

The Music Man, written and composed by Meredith Willson, is a highly successful Broadway musical launched in 1957. Its first run lasted for 1,375 performances and earned five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The cast album spent 245 weeks on the Billboard chart and won the first Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
