The Pajama Game is a musical with a book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. It is based on the novel 7½ Cents, also written by Richard Bissell.

The musical revolves around Sid Sorokin, the new superintendent of the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, who falls in love with Katherine “Babe” Williams, the leader of the factory’s union grievance committee, which is seeking a pay raise of seven and a half cents per hour for the workers. Babe’s friends try to persuade her to pursue a romance with Sid, but she dismisses the notion, saying she’s not at all into him. Nevertheless, she eventually warms up to Sid and he appears to be falling right back.

However, when the union stages a slowdown at the factory as a protest, Sid demands that all workers get back to work or all idlers will be fired. Despite this episode, he tries his best to reconcile with Babe, who pushes him away.

One evening, Sid devises a plan to discover the truth regarding the company’s finances. Wheedling the key to Sleep-Tite’s financial books from an inebriated company secretary, he discovers that their boss, Myron Hasler, has already added the extra seven and a half cents to the company’s production costs but is still keeping all the extra income for himself. With this information, he moves to quickly bring peace to the factory and to repair his relationship with Babe.
